Black Friday has been regarded as the beginning of America’s Christmas shopping season. The term “Black Friday” originated in Philadelphia. It was regarded as a disaster back in 1869 when the stock market crashed and the volume of shoppers created traffic accidents and sometimes even violence while it is also considered as a holiday after Thanksgiving Day in the United States. It has been regarded as the first day of the traditional Christmas shopping season since 1952 as retailers reduced their prices. Black Friday is not an official holiday but some other countries observe this day as a holiday after Thanksgiving Day.
Black Friday has usually been the busiest shopping day of the year in the United States since 2005. The phrase Black Friday gained more attention to all retailers because they earn more profit in this season and the consumers can buy everything they need at an affordable price. So why the name? Some say called in tribute to the term “black” referring to being profitable. The idea is retail businesses sell enough their product on this Friday to put themselves in the black for the rest of the year. Consumers usually shop on Black Friday for the hottest trending items offered. Every year the crowd of shoppers and visitors overflow, which leads to heavy traffic, stampedes, and more incidents in the absence of insufficient security.
It is typical for retailers to offer special promotions and open their stores in pre-dawn Black Friday hours to attract customers or may even start their sales at some time on Thanksgiving Day. Many stores extend their normal hours in opening their stores. Retailers commonly open their stores at 6:00 am, but for many years there are a lot of big stores open as early as 6:00 am to keep up the competition. Some of the retailer stores open on the time of Thanksgiving Day, and it turns out that Thanksgiving Day has been growing immediately and the Black Friday sale is decreasing at just about the same pace. The reason why consumers go shopping on Thanksgiving Day is to avoid traffics while they help to keep the crowds smaller and the line shorter. Stores offer a big discount aiding the needs of the consumers to buy whatever necessities and other hottest products such as holiday decorations, on-trend clothes, home appliances and other items like flowers, a box of chocolates and stuffed things for gift giving especially for the holiday season like Christmas. These are just wonderful gifts that you can give, to show your affection to someone that you love.
Many employers give their employees a day off as part of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Thus, the number of shoppers is increasing. Black Friday is the day to find the best deals that retailers may offer to all the shoppers, especially those people that their budget is just enough to buy things at lower prices. As previously stated, Black Friday is not the biggest event of the year, but still, Black Friday remains the busiest day of the year.
